Our Story
Mímir was founded by Josh Boutwell, a U.S. Army veteran and defense technologist who witnessed firsthand the systemic gaps in modern cybersecurity – particularly around protecting active data in cloud-hosted systems. Frustrated by solutions that failed to address the “last mile” of security, Josh developed BrunnrDB, the first distributed database engine engineered to solve the data-in-use problem.

He personally invested nearly $1 million into the development of BrunnrDB before securing external funding. Josh is the creator of BrunnrDB and leads Mímir’s technical vision, product strategy, and go-to-market commercialization efforts.
